6 steps to reach your goals
There are 6 Steps you need to take to reach your goal of becoming a nurse in the UK National Health Service. If you are accepted as a candidate, we will assist you in taking these Steps – that’s our role.
Step 1
Careful Consideration
This is probably the most important step you take, because this is when you spend as much time as you need thinking through the whole idea of becoming a nurse in the UK. Once you contact Bella Nusa, we will ask you whether you have considered all the implications of what will be a major watershed in your life. We will recommend that you talk to all your close family members, your good friends and the work colleagues that you trust. We will also help you do your own research on the internet, to see what other international nurses in the NHS have to say about how they got there and what life is like for them. We cannot emphasise enough that it is imperative that you understand as much as you can about the journey you are about to embark upon.
Step 2
Screening
When we and, most importantly, you are satisfied that you are making the right life choice, we will begin the screening process. It may seem that we are asking for a large number of documents, but they are all to do with matters that the UK Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) will ask you about when you come to register with them. We will need to see proof of: your identity; your nursing qualifications; your current work as a nurse; any registration of work in other countries/states; your state of health; and your good character (a Police report). We will assess your English language ability and your IT skills, to see that you have the potential to pass the English tests, some of which are taken online.
Step 3
English Language Tests
There are two tests that you will need to take in Indonesia before you can move to the UK – the CBT (Computer Based Test) and the OET (Occupational English Test). Bella Nusa will assist you, by explaining all about these tests, and will help you prepare for and pass them. These tests are likely to be the major hurdles for our candidates. If necessary, they will have to improve their English language to reach the standards required. We will help you find extremely competitive rates for teaching you English to the necessary standard.
Step 4
Move to the UK
Bella Nusa will arrange a Sponsor for you in the UK. When you have passed the two English tests and an interview with the Sponsor, and you have registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council, you will be ready to move to the UK. The Sponsor will authorise your visa and flight, which the NHS will pay for (via the Sponsor). The Sponsor will arrange for you to be met at the airport and taken to your accommodation at the training establishment. In fact, the Sponsor will ensure that there will be dedicated staff carrying out the pastoral care role. They will send you information about living in the UK, so that you are fully prepared. Once you are in the UK, they will also look after you and your needs. We will also be a point of contact for you, and we will run a growing association for Indonesian nurses within the NHS.
Step 5
Clinical Examination
The OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) is the final test of your competence to become a nurse in the NHS. It is designed to assess your ability to competently apply your professional nursing skills and knowledge in the UK. Basically, you must be able to show that you are capable of applying knowledge to the care of patients at the level expected of a newly registered British nurse. The Sponsor’s primary role is to train you and prepare you for this examination.
Step 6
Start your new Job
The Sponsor’s final task is to find you a placement in an NHS hospital that suits your abilities. This is something you and the sponsor will discuss at length during your time under training, which is likely to last for three months.
